🚨A new core update is live🚨

Finally, Google announced a new core update - the August 2023 core update.

The last core update we had was March.

A few things to know:

  • Core updates represent Google introducing changes to their systems to better determine which content is likely to be relevant and helpful.
  • It is not a penalty. If you see declines in Google organic traffic, it does not mean that you have been penalized for breaking guidelines, building links or other spam tactics.
  • Core updates are designed to better reward content aligned with the helpful content criteria.

If impacted, first, wait. Sometimes there are wild shifts and tremors that revert. But, if by the end of the rollout there are lasting declines in traffic from Google, my advice is to find examples of content that Google started to elevate above you and determine what it is that makes them more aligned with the helpful content criteria than you. Sometimes those things can be fixed or improved. Sometimes core updates introduce changes that are hard to remedy. For example, you may find Google is elevating pages truly demonstrating real world experience.

My helpful content workbook will help you work through the helpful content criteria.

If you have been making changes in content quality / E-E-A-T, you may find that your efforts are now finally rewarded with this update.

As I have more information I'll share in the Search Bar (my new community) and of course, in newsletter as well.

Best of luck!

Marie
